Odisha governor Ganeshi Lal has appointed Ashish Ghosh as director, of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar.

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhubaneswar has welcomed Prof. Ashish Ghosh as its new Director. Mr. Ghosh is working now as a professor and project director, at Technology Innovation Hub, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

According to official sources, Ghosh, with 28 years of teaching experience, will work for a five-year term starting from the date he assumes his position or until further orders are issued, whichever comes first; he has also authored ten publications and supervised ten Ph.D. candidates.

IIIT Bhubaneswar was registered as a society in November 2006, later on, it was converted into a university in the year 2014, January by the Odisha government. The institution situated at Gothapatna in the city offers several courses under its five departments.

According to Ghosh's statement to TOI, he plans to improve the institute's quality by motivating students and faculty to focus on education and research, while also striving to support innovation and incubation initiatives. A key priority for him will be establishing strong connections with industries. He also mentioned that he will improve the placement scenario of the institute so, that students can get better opportunities in the future. 

“We are in charge of a major initiative for the federal government. During the past three years, I have established connections with various industries. This connection and experience will aid me in my work with innovation and new ventures, said the professor.

Ghosh added that he has been conducting artificial intelligence (AI) research since 1987. “My decades-long experience teaching and conducting research on AI, data analytics, machine learning, and other deep tech subjects will benefit IIIT Bhubaneswar students,” he added.

In addition, he will collaborate with IIT and other technical institutions for educational and research purposes.
