New Delhi: A two-day celebration from April 30 to May 1 was recently held by the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) commemorated the platinum anniversary, where Lt Gen Daljit Singh, director general of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), announced that the medical centre is set to receive the Institute of National Importance (INI) designation. 

While marking the platinum anniversary of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, 

Lt Gen Daljit Singh, director general of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), announced that the medical institution is anticipated to receive the designation of Institute of National Importance (INI) this year.

He stated at a news conference that they are expecting that AFMC will get the status of Institute of national importance within the next six months. 

As a centre of excellence for medical education and research, AFMC has solidified its position among the top medical schools in the nation. According to numerous studies, AFMC was listed as the 37th greatest medical school in the world, he continued. 

Some of the prominent medical experts shared their knowledge through orations, panel discussions, and symposiums. The event also featured a debate on the subject of "Artificial Intelligence - A boon for clinicians," a panel discussion on the contributions of alumni to AFMC, and a clinicopathological case discussion.

In a tweet, PRO Defence Pune stated that Lt Gen DP Vats, PVSM SM VSM (Retd), MP, Mr. Naveen Jindal, President & Founder of Flag Foundation of India, and Lt Gen Daljit Singh, AVSM VSM PHS, DGAFMS & Sr Col Comdt (AMC) raised the 108-foot national flag at AFMC Pune in the presence of senior military officials and civilian dignitaries.

Meanwhile, several high-ranking military officials and dignitaries from the general public attended the ceremony.
