Arundhati Bhattacharya Review at Maastricht University [UM], Maastricht | Collegedunia

Life at Maastricht University, NL

AB
6.0 /10

I was the Programme Ambassador of Globalization and Development Studies; I represented my university on a global platform, organized orientation sessions, connected with prospective international students, and facilitated sessions at Utrecht University. I was also handling the official social media profiles of my univerisity.

Course Curriculum :

Research experience was given, but no industry exposure as such was provided.

Exams :

-My score for IELTS-7/9; the cutoff for maximum universities is 6. Since my subject was under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the GRE/GMAT was not mandatory. -SoP, Recommendation letter, academic transcripts, CV, work experience letter.

Placement :

Zero placement assistance more because it was a research master's degree; and that is why no companies visited.

Internship :

No internship

Fees :

It was 12,000 euros in 2021 (got a COVID concession, although the classes were on campus). It is around 18,000 euros now for the same programme

Faculty :

1 30 was the teacher-pupil ratio. Maastricht University is a private university which organizes small batches of classes and teaches in the PBL (Problem-based learning) method. Ragna Zeiss was my thesis supervisor, who was an extremely kind and warm-hearted person and helped me throughout. Most of the professors are accessible and approachable.

Campus Life :

ECAs- not too much. 1 year Master's is extremely intense; you need to earn 60 ECTS, and I had to write approximately 25-30 papers. You do not get any time to breathe. They have a beautiful library.

Hostel :

I was in a semi-studio, and it cost me 300 euros per month. You can avail a subsidy from the NL government on rent, health insurance if you are a single student staying in a rented apartment and also you need to be under 27 years to be eligible for student housing. Accommodation facilities are extremely difficult all across Europe and the U.K. due to a large influx of refugees from war-affected countries, so one really needs to prioritise this more than college admission. Many students return to India because they cannot find accommodation for themselves under a budget. Total cost per month with rent- 1000-1500 euros
