My overall experience at my university was overwhelmingly positive. The international program provided me with a unique opportunity to immerse myself in different cultures and perspectives, fostering a sense of global citizenship. The research opportunities I was given allowed me to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, enhancing my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The approachable and knowledgeable faculty members were always available to provide guidance and support, ensuring my academic success. The vibrant social scene and diverse student cohort offered a plethora of events and activities to unwind and connect with like-minded individuals. And having a central location in Western Europe provided me with the chance to travel extensively at relatively low cost, broadening my horizons and enriching my cultural understanding.
Course Curriculum :
The Course curriculum is intensive and expects a lot from the students. Students are expected to read research papers regularly and also perform projects and research of their own. The program solely focuses on research, and one would be better off going somewhere else if industrial exposure is a priority for them.
Exams :
My scores: GRE Quant - 168, Verbal - 164, Writing - 4, TOEFL - 112 GRE is not a requirement, but you can still send your scores to boost your chances. TOEFL/ IELTS is required There are requirements with regards to the courses (knowledge of which is assumed in the Masters program) that were done during Bachelors. Besides this, 2 Letters of Recommendation and a Statement of Purpose is required. SOP is required, 2 LORs are required, and a CV is also required. The program is research oriented, and hence your SOP should reflect that you are interested in the same, and what kind of problems you would want to work on, and with which professors.
Placement :
High Research opportunities, no "Placement program" as such, need to apply for jobs on your own, or through the job fair.
Internship :
Not an internship, but a Research Assistant Position in a Lab in the university called LaCoCo. The way to get any assistantship in the university is by cold emailing the person in charge of the lab, and trying to find common research interests with them. The final round is generally a technical interview which one needs to do well in.
Fees :
Approximately 300 Euros per semester.
Scholarship :
The Tuition fee in Germany is nominal, around 300 Euros per semester. For your living expenses, you can get a Research Assistant job or a Teaching Assistant job.
Faculty :
Faculty to Student Ratio is around 1:5. All the professors are extremely approachable and are extremely respected in the field of research. Dr. Alexander Köller, Dr. Michael Hahn, Dr. Bernd Möbius are some of the professors who are incredible and have left a mark on me, although there are many other great faculty at our campus.
Campus Life :
The program is extremely international, with 3-4 people per nationality. So, you get to explore many different cultures, and awareness levels in general grows. There are many extracurricular events spanning sports, dancing, theatre etc.
Hostel :
Generally, Accommodation in the student dormitories is only possible after 1st couple of semesters due to the high waiting lists. New students generally live in shared apartments which could cost anywhere between 300 - 500 Euros depending on the location, facilities provided etc.
