Required Exams for Admission
My experience in the university of Hamburg so far has been amazing. I am very glad to have chosen this university for my masters in Physics, as it provides both great academics and research opportunities. The experience that I have gained in the class room and also outside the classroom will surely be very helpful in my future endeavors.
Course Curriculum
- I feel course curriculum is really amazing, maybe bit advanced comparing it to the the Bachelor's curriculum I had. - Course syllabus is based the faculty's expertise. - Not at all stressful - but demanding for sure
Faculty
- The faculty to student ratio varies depending the paper/course. However you can expect 10 to 40 students in a class. - The faculty are very polite and friendly, always ready to help and available for supporting students. - The faculty, in general, teach the topics they are currently working on, hence, have utmost understanding of the topics they are teaching.
Campus Life
- The campus life is rather not so great. Students interaction is limited because of not having many classes together. - However, the campus life is such that you can meet any researchers/scientists working in the your field of interest anytime, as the classes are held in the DESY (where all the experiments and research happen). - Campus infrastructure is antic and premium. Many buildings were build pre world war, yet have all the basic amenities with good quality. Also, it is mixed with state-of-the-art research facilities which are also open to the students (with supervision). - When it comes to extra-curriculum activities there are various clubs for variety of activities; from game nights to journal club, from foreign language club to gardening.
Placement
- I am not yet in a position to give a certain answer to this question, as I am still studying. - However, I can with certainty that when it comes to research opportunities, there is plenty of options (one better than the other).
Accommodation
- Accommodation is hard to find. - There are student dorms available for various rent prices. - The student dorm of the university is very hard to get in, and waiting periods can never be less than an year. - The student dorms, generally, is a furnished single room, with shared kitchen and washrooms. - The average rent in a student dorm (private/uni) can be around 300 Euros per month (can also go upto 380) - The private rentals are much more expensive.
