One thing that I particularly appreciated about UniBonn was the wide range of extracurricular activities that were available. From sports teams to cultural organizations to volunteering opportunities, there was something for everyone. The school also did a great job of hosting events and speakers, which provided a chance to learn and be exposed to new ideas. With respect to academics, the professors were highly knowledgeable and approachable, and the coursework was challenging but rewarding. The campus was beautiful and well-maintained, and there were plenty of resources available to students, including well-funded and state-of-the-art research labs.
Course Curriculum :
The course curriculum is great and I love it. The course and concepts are taught by professors who are actively doing research in that particular fields and they share insights into what has happened in the past and what current scenario is. There are a plenty of research opportunities in and around the university.
Exams :
My scores: IELTS - band 7 And I didn't take any other tests. Even IELTS was not necessary if I remember correctly. I had to submit LoM, LoR and CV. Since the program I applied was a research oriented program, I emphasized a lot on my research experiences, my interests and my future plans of pursuing a career in research. Also, I had one round of interview after the application with the professor, who is also the head of our program. I was asked basic questions in biological sciences and based on my answers, sometimes the questions went little more technical and deeper into particular topics.
Placement :
I'm not sure of placement opportunities on campus as that is not my interest. But there are plenty of research opportunities after your masters. The course curriculum makes you ready to take up a PhD.
Internship :
I'm working in University Hospital Bonn and for short term internships, we don't get paid in universities here. But if we join for master's thesis, then we might get paid. It is quite simple to apply for an internship. Find a lab that interests you, contact the scientist through email and explain your motivation behind applying to them with a nice cover letter and CV.
Fees :
I have a semester fee of 310€, which would be 27000 rupees based on current exchange rates. The semester fee also includes transport throughout the state. Yes that's true you don't have to pay for public transport in and around Bonn and inside the NRW state.
Faculty :
The biological sciences network in Bonn is huge. I'm not sure how can I comment on faculty to student ratio because all of us work in different labs in different departments. For instance we are a class of 17 people, depending on our interests, sometimes we work in 17 different labs or sometimes we might be 2 or 3 people in the same lab for our projects.
Campus Life :
I definitely can't ask for anything better. Be it academics, sports, extracurricular activities, clubs. There is an active international club Bonn that organize events throughout the year. Research facilities are top notch We have two libraries with very good facilities There are a lot of sports facilities and I myself an active participant in few of them.
Hostel :
I live in a student dormitory. It costs me 280€ per month and it is quite cheap in Germany to get such a place. The rent includes WiFI, electricity, heating costs. Each person gets their own room and have to share the kitchen and washrooms with 4 other people. Based on what you want, you can also take a single apartment or studio flat where you get your kitchen and washroom.
