The Correct Option is C

Solution and Explanation

Oxygen is evolved during photosynthesis by the process of photolysis of water taking place in the membranes of grana thylakoids. The phenomenon of breaking up of water into hydrogen and oxygen in the illuminated chloroplasts is called photolysis or photocatalytic splitting of water. Light energy, an oxygen evolving complex (OEC) and electron carrier Yz are required for this process. Oxygen evolving complex is attached to the inner surface of thylakoid membrane and the enzyme has four Mn ions. Light energised changes in Mn (Mn{2+}, Mn{3+}, Mn{4+}) remove electrons from OH- component of water forming oxygen. Liberation of O2 also requires two other ions, Ca2+ and Cl-

Essential Mineral Elements

Mineral Elements:

A large number of inorganic elements are necessary for all the life processes and hence should be taken into our diets in adequate amounts. Any deficiency in these minerals leads to an abnormality in the metabolic functioning of the body.

Essential Mineral Elements in Plants

There are two types of minerals that are essential for plant growth, such as:

1. Macrominerals

Minerals like Phosphorous, carbon, silicon, magnesium, hydrogen, sodium, nitrogen, potassium, calcium, oxygen, selenium, and sulfur are required in abundance for proper plant growth and are also found abundantly in plant tissues. Hence, they are known as macrominerals.

2. Microminerals

A few minerals like Iron, boron, zinc, cobalt, chlorine, nickel, manganese, copper, molybdenum, etc. are required in lesser quantities for proper growth by the plants and therefore, they are called microminerals. Further they are also called trace elements.
