Question:

Anil, Sunil, and Ravi run along a circular path of length 3 km, starting from the same point at the same time, and going in the clockwise direction. If they run at speeds of 15 km/hr, 10 km/hr, and 8 km/hr, respectively, how much distance in km will Ravi have run when Anil and Sunil meet again for the first time at the starting point?

The Correct Option is C

Approach Solution - 1

The correct answer is (C): \(4.8\)
Time taken by Anil and Sunil meet at the starting point = \(LCM \bigg(\frac{3}{15},\frac{3}{10}\bigg)=\frac{3}{5}\)
Distance run by Ravi in \(\frac{3}{5}\) hours = \(\bigg(\frac{3}{5}\bigg)×8 = \frac{24}{5}\) = \(4.8\) \(km\)

Approach Solution -2

Speed ratio of Anil to Sunil \(= 15:10 = 3:2\)
It means, they will both meet when Anil runs \(3\) rounds and Sunil runs \(2\) rounds.
Distance covered by Anil \(= 3 × 3\ km = 9\ km\)
Time taken by Anil to cover \(3\) rounds of the path \(= \frac {9}{15}\  hr\)
Distance covered by Ravi in \(\frac {9}{15}\) hours \(= \frac {9}{15} × 8 = 4.8\ km\)

So,  the correct option is (C): \(4.8\)
