MD in Kayachikitsa: What is it About?

MD in Kayachikitsa is a clinical course. The course imparts training in the division of General Medicine in Ayurveda. As a medical discipline, Kayachikitsa forms the basis of all other branches of Ayurvedic treatment, and hence lays the foundation for advanced skills in Ayurveda.

The program has been designed to equip the scholar with skills in:

  • designing a treatment protocol comprising a range of internal and external medications.
  • specialized therapies according to the nature of the disease and the patient.

Ayurveda is the ancient Indian Science of:

  • diagnoses, prevention, and treatment of diseases based on three body humors (VATA, PITTA & KAPHA) and two humors of mind (RAJA & TAMA).
  • such humour-specific symptoms and signs, and subsequent detection of the dominance of a humour.
  • determination of treatment based on diagnoses of such primary dominance, secondary dominance and tertiary dominance of humors.
  • re-harmonizing and re-balancing the natural states of the humors.
  • careful observation and deep understating, which makes the ayurvedic science more complex than other health systems.

The course is conducted according to the rules and regulations of the Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi.

Successful postgraduates of the course are eligible for registration as ayurvedic physicians at CCIM or State Ayurvedic and Unani Boards. Their status is equal as other medical postgraduates in India, so they are also eligible for various appointments related to Ayurveda in central and State government.
