MBA v/s Diploma in Management

Students tend to get confused between MBA and Diploma in Management courses. Hence a comparison is given between MBA and Diploma in Management courses.

MBA Diploma in Management
A Diploma degree is offered to students at the completion of management diploma courses. Whereas at the conclusion of MBA programmes the students are offered with a postgraduate degree.
The curriculum for MBA courses is planned by the university. In two MBA colleges within the same university, the core syllabus would be similar. Diploma courses, however, are decided by each institute. This gives the curriculum of the course some versatility. The Syllabus undergoes an annual modification in compliance with industrial requirements.
There are similar core subjects in both MBA and PGDM courses, but most MBA courses concentrate more on the theoretical and technical aspects of management than on a practical approach. Diploma in management courses have a manufacturing emphasis and concentrate on business requirements-based skills.
Cost of MBA courses is somewhat less than the Diploma in Management. This is due to the fact that most MBA colleges are funded by the government. Cost of a Diploma in Management course is slightly higher than MBA as this course is mostly offered by private institutions. In most cases the cost for both of these courses is more or less the same.

Candidates are trained to achieve a better understanding of the leadership qualities used in business studies. Students benefit from the creation of the skills learned during this course to find lucrative job opportunities in sectors ranging from marketing, operations and entrepreneurship. Those who have completed their Diploma in Management programme successfully may start their career as:

Ques. What was your IMI Delhi PGDM interview experience like?

● Top Answer By Aniket Mishra on 03 Mar 23

Ans. I have written about the interview experience of my sister who appeared for the same last year.  She reached the venue and had registration and a brief introduction about IMI by a Sir. After the introduction, the candidates were allotted a topic for WAT. She got the ‘current USP of the market: offers more for less'. She wrote well including points related to competition, and technology reach, and gave examples of Reliance Jio. Next, they had document verification and were given the serial number for the interview. She was ushered into a room with 2 panelists, a lady and a man in their 50s. The panelists seemed friendly and asked her what the other candidates told her about them. After a friendly exchange, they enquired about her work. She was also asked to justify her low marks in class 12 to which she confidently replied that she was busy preparing for IIT JEE. They asked her about the things she liked to do in her leisure time and her passions. When she told them that one of them was cycling, they asked her about the biggest Cycle race. They asked a few more questions related to cycling to which she had nearly no answers. The topic soon switched to pities and they asked her about Maharashtra and Delhi CM and the controversies related to the Delhi CM. This too could not be answered by her.  They further asked her about her home state and related questions. Her extempore topic was ‘What Narendra Modi can do to stop engineers going for MBA to support his Make in India.’ She spoke about how investments can be made from foreign investors and the process of initiating a startup should become easier to promote entrepreneurship. Lastly, she was asked about the other offers she had and if she was considering them or not and why so. She ended the interview by stating viable reasons as to why she was determined to join IMI Delhi only.Read more

Ques. How is IMT Ghaziabad's dual country program?

● Top Answer By Deepak Behl on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad’s dual country program is one of the most coveted courses among its students. Like any other course, it has its own pros and cons. Let’s discuss them further to see the course's worth. Pros The high fees are worth the ROI you will get The faculty pool comprises professors from all over the world and this broadened the perspective of some subjects. The pedagogy adopted by the excellent faculty makes you fall in love with some very difficult and boring subjects The program has seen an increase in clubs and committees in recent years. Your stay in Dubai is quite productive given you are availing of the necessary opportunities and making the best out of them. Cons The course is expensive as you have to pay hefty fees as well as additional expenses for your stay in Dubai. The internship placement is a bit unorganized due to the difference in hiring seasons in India and Dubai The campus life is a bit dull in comparison to other flagship courses. So IMT Ghaziabad’s Dual Country Program is beneficial to anyone who is looking for extra exposure to their MBA program.Read more

Ques. How is the accomodation at NITIE for PGDIM students?

● Top Answer By Riya Seth on 13 Aug 21

Ans. One of my cousins was a part of NITIE Mumbai and has a better outlook regarding the same. Here is what he has to say, NITIE Mumbai is equipped with a 16 storied hostel apartment for boys, commonly called the Taylor Hostel, and almost 8 to 10 equipped for the girls, mostly known as the Gilbreth Hostel.  The girls’ hostel is quite old and outmoded. The rooms of the Gilbreth Hostel, however, are quite a bit more spacious than what is in the boys’ hostel. The hostel arrives with 27 rooms on every floor, with a twin sharing policy added.  It comes with two beds, two tables and chairs, and two individual cupboards. The rooms are gigantic and completely airy.  The view side of the institute’s hostel is beyond explanation as well. It overlooks the Vihar Lake on one side, while the Hiranandani Gardens on another.  The food you can avail in two messes is commonly known as Sarabhai and Taylor hall. Mostly, the food quality remains constantly the same either way.  The hostels also have table tennis courts, and mounted television sets as well. These are what you should know before finally deciding anything. Read more

Ques. What should be preference order of IMT Ghaziabad courses- PGDM, PGDM marketing, PGDM finance, PGDM DCP, PGDM banking, insurance and financial services?

● Top Answer By Dhruv Chatterjee on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad offers a variety of courses that cater to various specializations. These courses have been listed and explained in their order of preference PGDM Marketing/PGDM Full Time (Marketing): This is the most coveted program among IMT students mainly because today its alumni have acquired top positions in big firms. Other major reasons include top-notch faculty, great internship and placement opportunities in terms of role and CTC, IMT’s eligibility, and excellent performances in recognized marketing and strategy B Schools competitions. PGDM Finance/PGDM Full Time (Finance): This one is most suitable for aspirants who are interested in Finance. However, this program offers lesser opportunities than the Marketing program in terms of role and CTC.  PGDM Full Time (Operations): This program offers opportunities similar to that of Finance. But the batch size of PGDM Operations is smaller than PGDM Finance, so it may be easier to secure an internship/final placement, but the opportunities come less compared to Finance. PGDM DCP: DCP or the Dual Country Program is for those who are keen to get international exposure. Compared to an MBA from a foreign university, this program is cheaper and yet offers an opportunity to explore a different culture and learn to make decisions in an international context. This is best suitable for those who are in the Marketing domain. PGDM Banking and Financial Services (PGDM-BFS): This program was launched in 2019 and is relatively newer. It targets the core Banking and Finance sector. While the MBA program aims to provide a holistic view of management, this program solely focuses on Banking and Finance. PGDM Full Time (HR): This is the least taken course and offers very less in terms of opportunities. The courses have been arranged preference-wise so will make it easy for you to choose one.Read more

Ques. What is the placement process at SPJIMR, Mumbai for the PGDM program?

● Top Answer By Anshita Agarwal on 06 Mar 23

Ans. There are mainly two placements: Internships Placements (called the Autumn placements) and Final Placements.  Internship placements: These placements take place usually in the month of July and August during the second year. Students end their internship by October. The FMCG companies visit for Marketing and Operation placements together. Finance and Information Management internships are more like a rolling process. Final Placements: The final placements occur usually in the month of December. At this time, all the PPO results from internships are out and almost 50% of the batch has already been placed. SPJIMR does not encourage lateral placements and such cases are dealt with individually. The placement scenario for Information Management is pretty good offering amazing opportunities in both IT consulting as well as corporate IT.Read more

Ques. Which college is best, GIM Goa Core PGDM or IMT Ghaziabad marketing?

● Top Answer By Shubham Tiwari on 16 Feb 23

Ans. Both IMT Ghaziabad and GIM Goa are highly reputable institutes for post-graduation in marketing. Both institutes have a strong track record of producing high-quality graduates who are well-equipped to excel in the marketing field. However, when considering which program to pursue, there are several factors to take into account such as the quality of students passing out of these colleges, placement opportunities and profiles that interest you, and your academic scores. It is recommended to research and speak with students from both institutes, as well as professionals in the field, to gain a better understanding of the curriculum, faculty, and alumni network of each institute. Additionally, if you have poor academic scores, it might be a good idea to consider a program with fewer students, to increase your chances of success. Furthermore, if you have more work experience, it would be a good idea to look into IMT Ghaziabad as it offers various opportunities for students with more experience. IMT Ghaziabad is considered to be a tier above GIM Goa in terms of ranking, brand perception, placements, and opportunities. It is ranked in the same tier as the new IIMs, SIBM, NMIMS, XIMB, SCMHRD, and MICA. Additionally, IMT Ghaziabad is known for having a strong focus on marketing as its forte. On the other hand, GIM Goa falls in the category of institutes such as KJ, Fore, BIM, etc. It is important to do your research well and make an informed decision based on your career aspirations and goals.Read more

Ques. How good is finance in IMT Ghaziabad? What are the placement opportunities? How is it compared to PGDM general?

● Top Answer By Aditya Ghose on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad is called the Mecca for Marketing. It’s well known for its specialization in Marketing, Sales, and Business Development based roles. I don't think it offers similar opportunities for finance as well. The placements are pretty good but getting internship offers is difficult for someone who is switching careers from IT to Finance.  So if you really want to pursue a career in Finance after your MBA from IMT Ghaziabad, you can try CFA, and FRM and have some past background in FinanceRead more

Ques. I got a call from IMT Ghaziabad for DCP. Is it good and are there any chances of it getting upgraded? Should I go for GIM?

● Top Answer By Abhishek Rathi on 25 Jan 23

Ans. IMT Ghaziabad DCP program is one of the best and most coveted among its students. My brother is currently a first-year student of the same and has a lot to say about the course through his experience. He joined the program only after in-depth research. What attracted him the most was the location of the program, Dubai, which is the hub of globalization. Some major highlights of the course are The curriculum is similar to that of the IMT Ghaziabad PGDM program but the additional international exposure is the cherry on the top. The program is taught by an elite faculty base comprising globally recognized professors. The foreign professors mainly hailing from France, the US, Slovenia, UK offer a broader insight into the international management aspects  Right after the end of the First Term you are allotted Company Projects. You have to work in accordance with Dubai culture and will learn a lot about the field you are entering. You can do more than one such project also as that will broaden your network and knowledge. The marketing enthusiasts get to experience the splendid GITEX (Gulf Info Tech Exhibition). It’s an electronics trade show at the Dubai World Trade Centre that is held twice a year. It is a unique opportunity to gain Sales and Marketing experience. Recently the DCP students have made the name of the institution through international companies. Some major achievements include - 4 teams of DCP made it to the finals of the Global Management Challenge with 6 other UAE teams and one DCP team was 4th in the region; The DCP team under the mentorship of Dr. Zalzala won the Google Online Marketing Challenge (GOMC) in the Middle East and Africa. The internship and placement scenario is a bit confusing because in Dubai internships start in January whereas in India internships begin in August. The placements take place in India itself and DCP students are treated at par with the regular students. Despite this many companies offer better offers to DCP students mainly because of their widely gained exposure. My brother's experience was amazing and he recommends it to anyone who wants to explore outside the box.Read more
