Academic Qualification

• Degree Requirement: Possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution.
• Mathematics Requirement: Complete Grade 12 calculus/pre-calculus or university calculus with a C or better, or complete one of these courses:
  • COMP 120: Computing for the Sciences.
  • COMP 150: Introduction to Programming.
  • COMP 152: Introduction to Structured Programming.
  • COMP 155: Object-oriented Programming (recommended).
• Statistics Prerequisite:
  • Completion of STAT 106 (Statistics I) or MATH 270/STAT 270 (Introduction to Probability and Statistics). OR
  • A score of 155 or higher on the Quantitative Reasoning section of the Graduate Records Examinations (GRE).
• Co-operative Education Option: If you choose the co-op option, the program begins in July and finishes in December of the following year.
• Additional Opportunities:
  • Co-operative Education: The program offers a co-op option that provides paid work experience in your field of study. Completing a co-op semester can enhance your career prospects.
  • Upgrading Options: If you do not meet the entrance requirements, upgrading options are available during the summer months.

If you do not currently meet the entry requirements, UFV offers upgrading options:

• Mathematics Upgrading:
  • Completion of MATH 094 (Introduction to College Mathematics I) and MATH 095 (Introduction to College Mathematics II) with a grade of C or higher in both courses.
  • Alternatively, completion of MATH 096 (Foundations of Mathematics) or MATH 110 (Applied College Mathematics) with a grade of C or higher.
• English Upgrading:
  • Completion of CMNS 099 (Communications Foundations) or ENGL 099 (English Foundations) with a grade of C or better.
  • Alternatively, completion of ENGL 081 (English Skills 1) or ENGL 091 (English Skills 2) with a grade of C+ or better, or ESL WG84 (Writing and Grammar for ESL Students) with a grade of C+ or better.

English Language Requirement

• English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12: Minimum grade C+

• English 12, English Literature 12, or English 12 First Peoples: Minimum grade C+

• International Baccalaureate English A (Standard or Higher Level): Pass

• TOEFL iBT: Overall score 88, with no section below 20

• TOEFL Paper-Based: Score 570 with TWE (essay) score of 4.5 or higher

• IELTS Academic: Overall 6.5, with no band below 6.0

• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Score 61 overall, with a minimum of 60 in Writing

• Duolingo English Test (DET): Score 110 or higher

• Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency (CPE): Grade C or higher

• Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade A

• MELAB: Score 85 or higher

• CAEL: Score 70 or higher

• Advanced Placement English: Pass

• Successful completion of 3 years of formal full-time study in an English-speaking country: Minimum average C grades

• UFV Composition Placement Test (CPT): Score 48 or higher

• CanTEST: Overall 4.5 in Listening and Reading, and 4.0 in Writing

• Language Proficiency Index (LPI): Essay score 30 (level 5)

• UFV English Language Studies Assessment (EAP 084): Completion with C+ or better

• EIKEN (Test in Practical English Proficiency): Grade 1

• Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT): Overall 9, with no skill less than 8
