It was one of the only options for me to take Kinesiology because in high school I didn't take advanced math or chemistry. I have always loved the school because my older sister studies here as well, so when I got accepted it was an easy decision.
Course Curriculum :
I like the course curriculum as it has a balance between science and the arts. Some of the classes I'm taking are math based ad science based but I also have the opportunity to work on my writing and communication skills which is important for future careers.
Exams :
I took final exams in my grade 12 high school courses which went towards my final average, I needed mid 80's on my exams to get into the University.
Placement :
You look for them yourself so it's up to you to find a good opportunity. I'm sure there are many opportunities out there but it comes down to how hard you want to try and look for them, contact the managers and how your interview will go.
Internship :
My program offers co-op, which is something you can do for half a semester and earn credits for it but it is not paid. I haven't applied for it because the application process takes a very long time and involves a lot of training. I have also heard finding a placement yourself can be really challenging.
Events :
Hawk Weekend - this is a weekend when everyone gets together to celebrate the year and cheer on the dance teams. There are barbeques happening outside and refreshments being sold for all the students. It's a fun way to hang out with your friends before everyone goes back home for the summer.
Fees :
The fees are paid every semester online through a credit card. You pay for tuition and then on top of that about 20 different club fees that go towards helping out the school. Other charges include textbooks, a lab coat and a dissecting kit for me. I don't find the cost at my school very high compared to other schools which are nice in case you are responsible for your own tuition. Another fee that applies to me is rent, which I pay monthly from May-May every year I live here.
Scholarship :
I received OSAP which is through an ontario. The process includes filling out a form about where you live, what school you are going to and how much money your parents make. After that, they estimate how much money you will receive and then in the first semester of school you get half of it and the next semester you get the other half.
Examination Structure :
The exam structure is great as we always end about a week before other Universities. I have never had a crazy exam schedule and even if you do have one you can get them deferred by filling out a form. Exams are usually fair for students and profs just want to ensure that you understand the basic themes of the course.
Faculty :
My faculty is amazing and always has fun activities planned. Since everyone in the faculty loves sports and being athletic we have competitions between each other playing basketball, volleyball, and floorball. All the Professors are extremely friendly and have been willing to help whenever it is needed. I've had multiple professors tell me that their door is always open if you just need to talk, which proves that they care about not only your grades but your mental health as well.
Hostel :
My residence was like a hotel. It had three floors with 22 people on each floor. I had all the girls on my floor which was great because I met my roommates that I live with right now on my floor. We had a don who watched over us all year but she was super nice and didn't get mad or upset at very much. We often had pizza parties in the lounge or ordered food from our on-campus restaurant. I miss residence a lot and all the fun things that came along with living with 22 other girls!
