Students pursuing a master's degree in electrical engineering can choose from two degree options:

  • Thesis option: Students complete coursework in electrical engineering and write a thesis on a specific topic of interest within the field. Primary areas of focus in our department include image and signal processing, electromagnetics and microwaves, and power systems and renewable energy.
  • Non-thesis option: This track allows students to complete a professional paper and comprehensive examination in lieu of an academic thesis. Your comprehensive exams will have both an oral and written component. The written exam focuses on topics covered during your coursework, while the oral exam also includes your professional paper.

Specific course requirements will be worked out with your advisory committee, in compliance with department and Graduate School guidelines, and filed as part of your Program of Study. The Program of Study is the formal specification of courses and credits required to earn your degree.
