- Mechanical engineering professionals primarily deal with things that move. Students in LMU's Mechanical Engineering program learn to understand how the discipline's broad scope pertains to a variety of engineering activities and products, including vehicles for ground, sea, air, and space transportation; power plants, machines, heating and cooling, and manufacturing systems; structural mechanics, and processing plants. Majors immerse themselves in a high-quality, research and practice-oriented, design-focused curriculum that serves as preparation for both graduate studies and leadership roles in the industry.
- Mechanical engineering is very broad in scope and is pertinent to a variety of engineering activities and products, such as transportation vehicles, energy generation, machine mechanisms, manufacturing systems, structures, and processing plants. The mechanical engineering program provides a solid foundation for work in all of these fields.
- The mechanical engineering programs prepare students for engineering practice and helps them reach their full engineering potential. The B.S. curriculum covers fundamental mathematics and science, various engineering topics, and general education coursework (the University Core). Engineering lecture and laboratory courses are integrated throughout the curriculum and culminate in a year-long capstone design project. Students complete the University Core courses that support the education of the whole person.
- The Mechanical Engineering major provides a solid foundation for work in all of these fields. The flexible and modern curriculum covers contemporary technology as well as the fundamentals for future technologies. It is designed to prepare students for graduate school as well as for employment in the industry.
