- LMU's Dance major helps students develop their bodies, minds, and intuition. The program awakens students to an ever-expanding sense of the possible within human beings, communities, cultures and the art form itself. Dance majors learn to develop heightened sensitivity and awareness, and become leaders who can balance "what is" with an understanding of "what is about to be."
- The LMU Dance Department stands in solidarity with the movement towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and absolute consent and is committed to the ongoing work, at this moment and beyond, to create a curriculum that acknowledges race, gender, and ethnicity, is rooted in historical accuracy, seeks to mitigate unconscious bias, supports the individuation of every student, and values the presence of multiple identities and experiences.
- The program believes that the study of dance engages the student as a whole person – body, mind, and spirit.
- Guided by collaborative partnerships with teachers and scholars, opportunities to engage prominent dance artists, as well as participation with the diverse cultural and dance communities of Los Angeles and beyond, LMU Dance prepares students for a variety of career paths in dance and related areas of professional engagement.
- The Program provides a strong, unified learning community that works with deep intention, cooperation, and flexible engagement in performance, scholarship, choreography, and social action.
- Housed in the Department of Theater Arts and Dance, the Dance Program offers coursework for the dance major, the dance minor, and the general student population who wish to pursue dance as part of the core curriculum, as electives, and for the purposes of a liberal arts education.
