Students who choose to major in chemistry at the University of Houston must meet the following requirements in addition to the special requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree:
50 credit hours of Chemistry courses of which at least 36 hours must be at the advanced (3000 or 4000) level.
At least 15 credit hours must be hands-on laboratory experiences, that include a minimum of 450 contact hours in physical (i.e., not virtual or computer-based) laboratories.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students are required to submit an equivalent GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale).
- Students should submit their high school diploma or equivalent.
Indian Eligibility:
- Students are required to submit their high school degree with 70% or above from the recognized institution.
Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
