Master of Science [M.Sc] (Nursing - Adult and Mental Health)
$21,688 /Yr
The nursing curriculum follows a Ôspiral' design to ensure that your learning in both practice and the University is structured incrementally from one year to the next, with a specific focus for each year. Early in the programme, the same modules are taken by all three fields of nursing (ChildrenÕs, Mental Health and Adult), with some shared learning with students on the MSc Nursing (Adult / ChildrenÕs / Mental Health) pre-registration programmes. In each year of the programme, you will have placements in your fields of practice, with some taught content specific to your nursing fields. However, there is increasing nursing field specialisation as the programme progresses to completion. There is also a progressive shift in focus on levels of complexity of nursing interventions.
- Year 1 focuses on communities (local and national), health and well-being, lifespan and values.
- Years 2 and 3 enable you to explore specific nursing interventions, working in partnership with patients and their families to meet care outcomes.
- Year 4 focuses on care of people with complex health needs, including those who may have numerous problems; this requires health and social care services to be integrated to promote optimal health outcomes.
You can also pursue a personal interest through optional acceptable modules for example in the following topics:
- Healthcare elective
- Global health
- Independent study
- Therapeutic use of touch in healthcare settings.
A key component of the programme is to prioritise people, the individual and their family which will always be at the centre of your educational experience. Learning will be facilitated in partnership with practice and academic staff who meet professional standards and guidance. You will be valued as individuals, to enhance your strengths and challenge you to develop personally, professionally and academically. The course encourages you to learn by discovery as you move from being primarily supported and dependent to being supportive and independent in learning and practice. We are fortunate in having access to a remarkable range of clinical settings in both mental and physical health services, many of which have national and international reputations. You will gain experience in a wide variety of these practice environments within Oxfordshire.
