  • There are not a lot of events conducted in the college. So its mostly concentrated on the academic side.
  • Outer college events are not communicated to the students to participate. So students are unaware of the events from other colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Courses which are offered to Bcom General first shift students in Loyola college are somewhat not relevant. Some subjects are useless for the students. Students are offered foundation courses at 1st semester which doesn't have any elective subjects. From the second semester, students are allowed to choose one or two subjects from a selection of subjects in which most of them are irrelevant to commerce. There are no complains regarding the main courses offered but the allied courses are not much of a use to students. For say students are offered subjects like chemistry, biology for their elective subjects which is so irrelevant. The elective subjects offered for 2nd shift students are wide which is related to business, corporate, finance, accounting. Students are offered to choose french, tamil, hindi or sanskrit for the general language which is mandatory for 4 semesters.

Internships Opportunities :

The college provided a internship opportunity from Goldman Sachs where the students are filtered based on a test and interview conducted by the company. The selected students are sent to Hyderabad or Bangalore for the internship at the cost of the company and provided a stipend of 50,000. The college also offered a internship opportunity in Deloitte where the students are shortlisted based on marks after applying. Then the students are to take a test from which they are filtered. Then they have to go through Group Discussion and Interview for being selected for the internship. This internship provides a stipend of 15,000-20,000. Also various institutions send emails to the college email id of students where they provide training for students which is paid and the students are offered internship in companies with a stipend of 10,000-20,000

Placement Experience :

Loyola college offers placement to its students in the Big fours and also other top companies. Students are eligible for placement in their 6th semester. It provides placement in companies like Goldman Sachs, Ernst and Young, Deloitte, Zomato, Accenture, KPMG, Citi Corp India, Amazon and others. In 2023 Goldman Sachs offered 8LPA for the post of analyst, KPMG offered 8LPA for the post of associate auditor, Deloitte offered 6LPA for the post of Audit assistant.

Fees and Financial Aid :

There are two shifts in our college, the morning shift and the evening shift. The fee structure in evening shift is comparatively more than the morning shift. The evening shift course fee starts around 60,000 per semester. I study in the morning shift. For commerce students there are two options in case of morning shift Bcom General and Bachelor of Economics. The second shift contains Bachelor of Accounting and Finance, BBA france in which students are sent to France in last year for training (It is one of the high charged course in our college) , Bcom General, Bachelor of Corporate Secretaryship. The fees for my first semester was 13,000. Fees in consecutive semesters was much less. It was around 10,000 for my 2nd, 3rd and 4th semesters each.

Campus Life :

The students can to use any facilities of the college and hangout anywhere. The student has the freedom to enter and exit the college at any time. It is an open gate college. There is a library with nearly 1,00,000 books. Students can borrow any books using their id card. There are printing shops, stationery shops and food courts inside the campus. There is entrepreneurship club, photography club and other clubs in the college in which students have to spend 60 hours in a club of his choice to get the degree. There is NCC club, Airforce, Navy and Army clubs where interested students can join. The students are given online portals where all the information about the students are available. Attendance of students, their marks, books borrowed from library and other details are available in the portal.

Admission :

I chose Loyola college for its reputation and for the placement opportunities. My primary aim was to get into Loyola college and I got selected as expected. The selection process is on the basis of the marks secured in 12th exams. I got selected because of good aggregate marks. I also applied to DG vaishnav college and MCC college in case I didn't get into Loyola. I also got admission to both MCC and DG vaishnav college. The admission process in those colleges were also based on the marks. After applying to Loyola college, they will release a list of students who got selected, then the students are to visit the college for their document verification, after being verified you are allocated your seat in the college. Most of the students admitted in Loyola college have a cutoff of more than 390 out of 400.

Faculty :

In our department there are 10-12 faculties. They all are experienced government employed personnels. Some professors are friendly towards the students while others are so conserved and tough like any other colleges. Some of the faculties in the college have the eligibility to work as a professor but does not have any subject knowledge. They just take it out of no interest. There are 3 exams in a semester. It consists of two internal exams which carries 50% weightage combined for the semester and the main examination which carries 50% weightage. The internal examination is conducted for 50 marks and converted into 30 marks. The balance 20 marks will be entered according to the assignments done by the students before the internal examination. The semester examination is conducted for 100 marks which is then converted into 50 marks. The internal examination marks and semester examination marks are thus combined to evaluate the mark out of 100.

Night Life :

There is a common canteen for the students inside the campus. There are also some snacks and drinks shops inside the campus. There are cafes like Hard Rock, The Smash, Lafayette, Kill No Kalorie around the college. There are some restaurants near the college where you can eat in a budget. There is also a mall near the college called Ampa Skywalk. There is a gym situated just to the opposite of the college and also other gyms near the college. The hostel students can get a pass to stay out of the hostel at night. The students are allowed a to enter the hostel within 12a.m. in case the subsequent day is a holiday. The college is located in Nungambakkam so there is always people on road at night around the college as it is one of the busy area in Chennai.

There are actually a lot of company placements for many departments which will provide high salary companies. As acca students you will be mainly concentrating on getting the acca papers cleared rather than placements.
