Remarks :
In conclusion, all colleges have their pros and cons. When i step outside, and think subjectively my college offered a range of experiences which i could not have gotten elsewhere. Certain aspects felt suffocating at times like the 75% attendance requirement and surprise tests which add a direct mark to the final grade. Which i feel somewhat reduced participation of some people in corporate competitions, fearing they would lose grades. But those who are enthusiastic did not let this affect them.
Entrance Preview :
I gave the test specific to manipal. scored 150/240. My rank was 600. I opted for manipal as the infrastructure was top class and i would be able to study alongside people from all over the country.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is a combination of new and legacy subjects. Each semester has 3 Lab courses and 6 subjects. Even semesters we have to pick elective subjects of our choice, these are sometimes outside your stream and one time within your stream. The primary focus of the curriculum is to completely strengthen your basics which will lay the foundation for any IT job.
Internships Opportunities :
The college provides projects over the eighth semester for students(without stipend). But many colleges which come to hire for jobs, also offer internship to the students. The stipend ranges from15,000-35,000 a month.
Placement Experience :
For most branches the placements differ drastically. Job opportunities for IT roles are ample. The placement cell is very effective in getting colleges on campus. Many companies come all through the final year and offers range from 4lpa to 20 lpa CTC
College Events :
We have two fests in college, one technical and the other cultural. Tech fest has many competitions to test technical abilities in the form of quizes, building, puzzle solving, paper presentations etc. The cultural fest comprised of exhibiting all art forms and inter college sports.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
MIT manipal is probably the most costly place to do your studies. Even the accommodation is more expensive as the quality of accommodation is very high and top quality. hostels are maintained very well and security of students is a priority concern. Fees has been increasing every year and becoming more costly as time progresses.
Fees and Financial Aid :
Top ranked 5% of each branch receive a freeship. that means, a complete waiver of tuition fees for all 4 years. In order to maintain this freeship they need to score a minimum of 8gpa every semester otherwise it is lost and cannot be regained.
Campus Life :
Campus life is quite happening, there are always events happening that are organized by some club or the other. Clubs range from branch-specific to entrepreneurship enthusiasts, arts, social service and sports. On campus there is a huge field and a recreation club, gym, swimming pool etc. Nearby there is a giant gym called marena which has a membership fees but has world class facilities for tennis, squash, badminton, gyming. Gender ratio differs from branch to branch. CSE branch enjoyed a healthy ratio of 1:4 i think
Hostel Facilities :
For girls hostel, we had common washing machines for laundry. which was the best perk to have. There were laundry ladies to take and launder your clothes as well. Rooms were available in several categories. single attached, double attached, AC, Non AC etc. Internet was good in the girls hostel as well. Boys often complained though. We had monthly limit of 15-20 Gb on our login. Mess food was clean and served 4 times a day, non veg was served 3 times a week for lunch/dinner and egg was served every morning. But mess food was again, more costly than most colleges and messes outside campus were much cheaper
Alumni/Alumna :
I have not interacted with any alumni in my entire duration. But seniors definitely help you if you reach out to them. The alumni affairs professor is very dedicated to keeping alumni information updated at all times. Several events take place from time to time where alumni are often invited to attend
Exam Structure :
Each subject would have 2 sessional exams of 20 marks, 10 marks of internal assessment from regular class tests. And one final exam of 50 marks. All combine to give a 100 mark score. Labs have two tests as well, these tests have MCQs and a small practical coding project. Final exam is again 50 marks which has two programs to write. You get tested on write-up, compilation and output.
Admission :
I applied online to sit for the entrance test. After the ranks were released, I was in the first slot for counselling. We have to visit any of the Manipal campuses(Manipal/Jaipur) for blocking a seat. After you get a seat in an available branch, you fill forms to apply for upgrade (in case a seat empties). then you submit the DD for the fees and other required documents.
Faculty :
The faculty at MIT is a mix for fresh people from the industry who are working on a PHD and experienced and wise professors. Many faculty members are very encouraging, to support research projects outside the course. Only a select few professors are very difficult and do not have a hold of the classroom.
