Remarks :
I scored a rank of 104 in the entrance exam conducted by the University, this made sure that I would be able to claim a scholarship. On further enquiry, I figured out the quality amount and time the university spends on research and incubation, which further excited me because that was something that I eventually wanted to do. The merit oriented admission process made sure that MIT stood out of all other private universities which never regulated the number of students they take in and the means they follow to do so. This gave me the confidence that the quality promised would be delivered. The fact that Manipal is a place every student needs to be in further pushed me and confirmed my decision. CollegeDunia definitely proved helpful in this process, though shiksha.com was another site I referred to. The admission process is in two stages: 1.Giving the entrance exam 2.A fair and promising counselling session We are given the facility to attempt the test thrice. The best score is picked.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Computer Science was something that always kept me pumped up. I chose computer science, not for the placements but keeping in mind the amount of research that was happening in that field. That was my main motive behind picking computer science. The faculty: student ratio is pretty good at MIT, with a whooping 1:10 to 1:12 ratio, the teaching methods and evaluation to some extent are faculty oriented (faculty has the flexibility to make decisions up to some extent). It's made sure of that everything that's taught in the teaching hours would be put to implementation during the lab hours pertaining to industry level situations. MIT has always been innovative about their assessment procedure, we write our exams on specifically manufactured devices called the e-pads, where we use a stylus to accomplish the task. It maintains a hybrid grading system which is relative at its core but is restricted using absolute grading principles. (2 sessionals + 4 assignments+1 end sem)/subject (30+20+50)
Internships Opportunities :
The industry liaison office handles the internships too. Major tech giants who'll be visiting to offer placements also provide internships for lower semester students. The stipend for the same varies. I've seen my seniors getting an internship offer of up to 65k per month. Students can also have the flexibility of working under professors or do their own research.
Placement Experience :
The students would be eligible to sit for campus placements right since after the 5th semester. Internship offers can be accepted then. These can be PPOs too. All the tech giants ranging from Microsoft to Samsung would be visiting the campus for placement offers. The highest package was touching around 40lpa and was offered by Microsoft, the average package for the computer science department stands at around 8 LPA, with everyone who has applied for the placement process getting placed. Many students take up research and publishing and would wish to pursue it further. The incubation facility on the campus makes sure that students with start-up ideas are also conserved. On a personal note, I would be taking up research and would be willing to take up further studies.
Fees and Financial Aid :
It is true that the fee structure at MIT is threatening compared to other universities, for the batch of 2022 we have to pay an annual fee of 3,82,000/_. The hostels are charged based on our requirement, even the most basic one would cost upwards of 1L. MIT has really good scholarship programs, based on merit and also based on region. There are more than 17 different categories of scholarships offered. I personally claim a 25% scholarship on my tuition fee. You can find the entire list of scholarships and the eligibility for the same on the universities web site. Apart from this MIT being a grade B institute, SBI offers a scholar loan, of up to 20L without any need for collaterals, this is easy to set up a loan with really low interest rate. I avail this loan too. MIT has an established industry liaison body, which ensures the placement procedure. In the department of computer science, everyone who chose to go for placements was placed successfully.
Campus Life :
As I've mentioned MIT is one place everyone needs to be in at least once. The student community is really open and is always accepting ideas, innovations and changes. The beauty of the place situated in the western ghats surrounded by beaches makes it a delightful place to study in. MIT has two fests spanned across the year in the two semesters, the annual tech fest Tech Tatva is a delight to all the tech enthusiasts, it usually falls during the first week of October and the cultural fest Revels is a relief to the rigid academic schedule. Classrooms are quite basic with air-conditioning, and a projector for the faculties use. Other facilities such as the labs, seminar halls are well maintained, we do have an ar enabled seminar hall on the campus. There's literally every sport on the campus and nearby that you can take up whether it's kayaking or boxing to going on lovely cycling trips exploring the marvellous western ghats. Also home to a large number of technical and non-technical clubs.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel fee starts from 1L and goes upwards based on your room requirements. You can choose from a triple shared common bathroom room to a single attached AC room. A decent wifi connection and basic furniture (table, chair and a cupboard) are provided. The quality of food is made sure of, but nobody could guarantee you about the taste though. The food is prepared by an ISO certified third-party provider, with great options on the menu for both vegetarians and for those who prepare non-veg too. The student can choose to live outside the campus after his 1st year, but it's always suggested that you stay on the campus. Mandavi Emerald, eshwar Nagar are common places for renting a flat.
Other Applied Colleges
BITS Pilani | CSE
I wasn't getting my branch of choice for the marks I've scored in the entrance test
IITs | CSE
Though I was getting the branch of my choice, that was only possible in new or the not so great IITs
