New Delhi: IIT Madras's Professor Sundar S has been appointed as the new director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram. 

Before being appointed as the new director of NIT Mizoram, Prof Sundar S was the Head of the Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras, from 2017 to 2020. He was prominent in the areas of numerics for PDEs and mathematical modelling and numerical simulation. 

He took over the role from Prof Rajat Gupta, who joined as the Director of NIT Mizoram on July 3, 2017. 

Prof Sundar was an alumni of University of Madras in 1982, where he completed Bsc in mathematics. He completed his MSc in applied mathematics from Anna University in 1984. Thereafter, he pursued his PhD in mathematics from IIT Madras in 1989.

Prof Sundar S began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at DAAD Germany and also went on to the same position at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore

He remained assistant professor and associate professor of the maths department at IIT Kharagpur followed by the same position at IIT Madras. Later, he managed to become professor and head of department of maths at IIT Madras.

Moreover, he served as the chairman of Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Advanced, IIT Madras in 2015 and vice chairman in 2014.

Apart from that, Prof Sundar was a fellow of the Indian Academy of Mathematical Modeling and Simulation and an associate editor of the International Journal of Advances in Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics, Springer. 

About NIT Mizoram 

Established in 2010, NIT Mizoram is counted as an institute of national importance by an Act of Parliament. Being an autonomous university, it's courses are affiliated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As of now, the institute has a strength of 406 students.

NIT Mizoram offers several undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level programs to the students and admission to these courses are done based on the valid score obtained by the students in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance examination.

The institute has a separate and dedicated placement cell that assists students in getting the right opportunities regularly.

Recently, the institute concluded its placement drive with a record placement percentage of 58. The highest numbers of job offers were bagged by the students of BTech computer science engineering. Some of the top-notch recruiters of NIT Mizoram placements were Intellect, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, Polaris, L&T, Wipro, inCourage, etc.
