Dr. Shyam Sunder Agrawal is an eminent academician and a scientist in the areas of Acoustics, language technology, and communications. He obtained Ph.D. in 1970 from Aligarh Muslim University. He worked as a Research Scientist at CEERI, Pilani, and other institutions having research experience of more than 45 years. Later on, he was selected as Emeritus Scientist at CSIR and Advisor to CDAC. He has worked as Guest Researcher at MIT, Cambridge, Ohio State University, and UCLA in the U.S.A. and visited many universities and research institutions in USA, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Japan, and other Asian countries. He has received a large no. of Hons. and Awards. He received the Life Time Achievement award of CSI. He was awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship, U.N.D.P Fellowships, and Sr. East-West Centre Fellowship. He was elected as President of the Acoustical Society of India.Received Sir C.V. Raman Award, Internationally Eminent Acoustician Award, and Gold Medal from Acoustic Foundation and Acoustic Society of America, Honored to deliver Several memorial lectures and many citations. He is a distinguished fellow of IETE, and a fellow of CSI, ASI, ISPhS, and other professional societies. He is currently working as Director General of KIIT Group of Institutions and chairperson/ board member of many professional, educational, and technical bodies in India and abroad.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
This is the era of teamwork and mutual cooperation and respect. A leader should very well know the strengths and caliber of his team and constantly be in tune with the goals and aspirations of the institution so as to motivate and guide the team players towards their task achievement.
How does the curriculum of the college ensure the best practice of industry?
The institution very well understands that there is a need to equip the students with industry needs, technical skills as well as professional ethics. The industry partners of KIIT namely Sprint Technologies, VOIS, Anudeep Foundation, etc. work in parallel with the university curriculum to impart technical skills and certifications which make the student's industry worthy.
Any insights into how your institute could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
We have had students from all parts of the country including Bihar, North East Indian States, Nepal and African Countries. We ensure that congenial atmosphere is provided within the campus. Each student has a mentor faculty who is their academic as well as personal mate. We have special scholarship schemes for students from Government Schools, students of defence personnel, female students, BPL card Holders. The institution believes in the principle that Education is for all and should reach all and no one should be deprived due to any financial or personal reasons.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the Institution and the students are?
Striking a balance between the expectations of the students, their parents and the governing council of the college is an uphill task. Our prime objective is to ensure that our students evolve as worthy professionals and citizens of the nation. To achieve this academics are supported by values, morals, ethics based lectures. Various invited lectures, workshops, grooming sessions are conducted for the students to prepare them for their future. The instruction methodology at KIIT ensures that the student becomes a self reliant learner and motivated individual to pursue his career.
What do you think should be the institution’s top priority over the next 10 years?
The institution should be known for its academic excellence and technical expertise. Our students should be best equipped with technical knowledge in tune with the latest industry requirements and also they should be humane individuals and professionals.
What would you like people to know about your Institute they may not know?
We have a well qualified and experienced faculty which are with the institution for more than 15 years. Situated within the city limits with a vast campus with easy accessibility.
What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths?
Our college’s greatest strengths include accessibility, totally smoking free vegetarian campus, fees structure, student connect, student centric activities and industry partnerships.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for your college specifically?
Declining student strength.

Technology should be used cautiously. Be connected to your roots and keep growing as a humane professional and individual.
