Bachelor of Arts [B.A] (International Justice)
$20,067 /Yr
Home to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, The Hague is the perfect backdrop to explore conceptions of justice in our global society. Justice issues related to human rights, peace, security and the environment present legal and policy challenges for governmental and non-governmental actors, international institutions, and civil society that extend beyond national borders and single disciplines.
In the International Justice programme offered by the Leiden University, students are introduced to the foundations, sources, normative concepts (e.g. fairness and legality), and structure of the international justice system (e.g. war crime trials and truth commissions).
Using this base, students can engage with contemporary international justice issues such as refugees and asylum, gender and conflict, legal and economic integration, transnational crimes such as human trafficking, climate change, sustainable development, and natural resource exploitation in the commons i.e. the high seas. The major also explores liability for crimes (e.g. genocide and other human rights violations), as well as exemptions from punishment, and dispute settlement between states.
