The Institute of English / American Studies offers a wide range of intensive training in the language and literature sciences of the Anglophone cultural area. The aim is to strike a balance between theory and practice paired with application orientation with a focus on overview knowledge in the individual study areas. The courses include language practice, English linguistics, English and North American literary studies, and cultural studies from Great Britain, North America, and Canada.

The University of Greifswald does not demand a typical tuition fee. Students have to pay 82 USD per semester as Semester contribution and 107 USD once as enrolment fee.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Prior to commencing studies, students will be required to provide proof of German language proficiency. The following certificates are recognized by the University of Greifswald for applications to a full degree course:
- the ‘Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber’ (DSH) at least level 2*
- the ‘Deutsche Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz’ (level 2)
- the Goethe-Zertifikat C2 from the Goethe Institute
- the ‘Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache’ (Test DaF), at least level 4 in all partial examinations*
- the certificate ‘telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule’
- a completed degree in German Studies, an assessment test with German as an examination subject.
