- The component Computer Science addresses the systematic processing of information using computers. Closely related to mathematics in its formal fundamentals, it is also an engineering discipline that has developed out of a need for fast and reliable calculations of all sorts.
- As Computer Science represents only one component of the Joint Bachelor of Arts, the Computer Science content is correspondingly smaller than within the Bachelor of Science program Computer Science. The component is thus limited to more restricted fundamentals of the subject and only plans for a small-scale specialization in the specific areas of Computer Science taught at TU Darmstadt, the so-called canon of 8 areas of specialization.
